If you are interested in exhibiting at the center.
  • Regular group exhibitions are planned for the center. We welcome artists to submit slides to our slide registry for consideration in exhibi­tions. Slides must be reviewed by the 1978 Exhibition Advisory Committee. Proposals for group exhibitions will also be reviewed by the committee.

  • Two to six slides of current work and a brief bio should be sent to the center, 1978 Springfield Ave Maplewood, NJ 07040. We encourage artists to leave these slides on file for consideration in future exhibitions. All submitted slides will become part of our slide registry. Slides submitted for a specific show that need to be returned should include SASE.

  • 1978 is an all-volunteer organization. Artists participating In a show at 1978 should expect:

  • - To assist In sitting during the open hours (hours may vary with each show). One representative will be responsible for the key and alarm system code. PR and display of art will be the artists respon­sibility. The Advisory Board will offer support whenever possible.
    - To participate In the Advisory Board's promotion of the exhibition. This may include supplying art and artist information and mailing flyers, post cards and press releases. We will support efforts by sharing our contacts and forming a promotional plan and will Include exhibit Information in our existing promotions.
    - To have all works exhibition ready (hanging pieces should be wired and framed when needed).
    - To participate in an opening reception and educational programs, such as gallery talks.
    - To donate 20% of the sale price of work sold to 1978. If nothing is sold, we ask that you make a donation to 1978 to help us defray costs. Twenty-five dollars per open day, per show, Is the minimum.
    - To leave the gallery In the shape it was found: that is, clean and with no damage to the walls.
    - To document all work before the show (described fully and priced accurately). Works of art are Insured by the Township of Maplewood.
    By law no alcoholic beverages are allowed at 1978, a Maplewood TownshIp property.
