Gallery Hours During Exhibitions:
Saturday & Sunday, 2-5pm


New This Year

Artists' work must remain for the entirety of the show. No taking art to other shows. Once it's in, it either gets sold or your pick it up at the end of the show.

Print Bins

Print bins - artists are only allowed one print bin if there is room.
The print bin should not be no larger than 24" across.
Print bins - are for prints only. Sorry, NO FRAMED WORK OR CANVAS in the bins.
Please don't bring them - they will be sent home with you.
If your bin is larger, we will let you know if we can fit it in AFTER the show is mostly hung. Sorry it's not sooner - but we just don't know if we'll have room until we start hanging.
The decisions are final and at the discretion of the hanging committee.


Print bins should have no more than 20 prints.
We will contact you if your work sells and you need to bring more in.
Community Print Bins - there will be 'community' print bins in case you don't own one. If you don't own one - please bring only 5 prints.

There is no entry fee, but please bring something to donate for the refreshment table : soda, water, chips, cookies.

All work must be picked up on either Sunday after the show or on Monday. We're very sorry, but we do not have any space to store it. If you don't have your art picked up, the center will dispose of it


This show is not juried and all local artists 18 and older are invited to participate.

All work must remain at 1978 for the duration of the show

Framing & Hanging

All frames & canvas must be WIRED for hanging.

No single point hangers, no keyhole hooks, no saw tooth hangers
They will be rejected at drop off.
In past years keyholes and saw tooth hangers have popped off the wall and broken due to the vibration caused by the buses, or from the MANY nails that need hammering to hang the show.
We do not want any breakages this year.

Unframed Pieces sized 12x18" will be accepted if they are wrapped in clear accetate protection and can be attached to the wall using pins.

Works on paper such as drawings, watercolors, prints, and photography should be under glass, plexiglas, or matted with an acetate or shrink-wrap cover. If you are matting works, we request that you use appropriate gallery mats (white, black or gray).

The artwork is hung salon-style with as many works per wall as space permits. If you have reasonable specific needs for installation please email before the drop-off dates, so arrangements can be made for the display of your work (for example: if several pieces need to be hung together as in a triptych).

Unacceptable Framing

Price List and Labels for Artwork

All art must be labeled with your first initial, last name, item number and price.
You must also bring an inventory list with your name, contact info, art info, item #s and prices.

Labels and an itemized form for artists to document the price, media, and titles of artwork dropped off
emailed to the participating artists after October 31st

These forms are to accompany the artwork at drop-off.

Jewelry Artists

Every single piece must have a price tag attached to the piece.
Do not attach the price tag to the box, or to the display..

People like to try pieces on and boxes can get switched accidentally.
Then the wrong price is charged.
Bad for you. Bad for us

Jewelry artists may use their own tags.
Tags must display your first initial and last name, item # and price.

Please label everything before coming to the gallery.

1978 does not have displays for jewelry. You must provide your own display stands.


Price Limit per piece : $400 maximum

The gallery accepts credit cards, checks and cash for sales during this exhibit. The gallery will pay artists via check in a timely manner (after the close of the exhibit) for all works sold, minus the commission.

We are a non-profit – no tax is collected.

It is helpful if pricing is kept in whole dollar amounts.

Volunteer Gallery Sitting

1978 Board Members will be available for gallery sitting this year; however artists are welcome to be present in the gallery and to invite friends and neighbors to meet them there.

1978 provides promotional postcards for this exhibition that will include details of the exhibit as well as the names of the participating artists. Each artist will receive 20 postcards for their own use. We will also send out a jpeg version of the postcard so artists can promote the show via email.
Postcards should be ready around November 15th. Postcard pick-up arrangements will be made at that time.
If you live outside of the Maplewood/South Orange area and you would like to have your postcards mailed to you, there will be a $5 charge to cover postage.

Promotional Materials

One notebook featuring the promotional materials of the exhibiting artists will be available for visitors.
Artists may bring in any materials that can fit into 8 ½ x 11 top-loading plastic sheet protectors: resume, Xeroxes of newspaper articles and reviews, etc. We can also display business cards and promotional postcards for artists in the gallery
